About this event

Children's Program Room. Cumberland Homeschool Hub is our new offering for homeschooled kids and their families. Activities and dates will vary based on staff availability and resources. GameMakers is a new inquiry-based program series focused on tabletop games that provides children with opportunities to learn through imagining, playing, making, and sharing their ideas. In this last GameMakers session, we’ll learn about the other important steps in the game development process: prototyping, playtesting, and (re)evaluating. Participants will practice brainstorming and outlining quick game design ideas before breaking into teams for a mystery bag challenge! Teams will invent a new game, build a basic prototype at our maker stations, and, time permitting, will get a chance to playtest each others’ games! THIS WORKSHOP IS DESIGNED FOR HOMESCHOOLED CHILDREN AGES 8-12. Adult caregivers are welcome to attend along with their child(ren) or take a break and sit it out. Please note: Adults must remain in the Children's Room area if their child is under 10 years old. REGISTRATION REQUIRED Note: This GameMakers workshop is the last in a 3-part series about tabletop/board game design. Each workshop will explore different aspects of the game development process. While each workshop builds on the previous one, sessions can also be attended as a standalone program. Relevant concepts and information will be reviewed at each session, so participants will not be lost or behind if they didn’t attend a previous workshop. Register for each of the 3 sessions for the full game design experience, or just come for 1 or 2. Either way, we’re happy to see you! Library homeschool programs are open to all area homeschoolers, and therefore do not subscribe to a specific homeschooling method. These programs provide opportunities and enrichment for families, as opposed to filling a specific slot in individual homeschool curriculums.
