About this event

The Miamisburg Mound, just about a mile southeast of downtown Miamisburg, is the largest conical earthwork of its kind in the world. It’s about 300 feet wide, 877 feet around, and stands roughly 65 feet tall. Made from an estimated 54,000 tons of earth, it was built by the Adena people over many years. The mound likely served as a place for ceremonies and burials, and may have even been used as a signaling spot. Join us for an engaging talk exploring the fascinating history of the Miamisburg Mound! Using archived materials from the Miamisburg Historical Society and old newspaper articles, we’ll dig into some intriguing questions. Who were the Adena people, and how has the mound shaped the story of Miamisburg over time? We’ll also look at the many attempts to excavate the mound and discover what—if anything—was found along the way. Teens and families are also welcome to attend. Please contact us if accommondations are needed.
