History at High Noon: Highways 6 & 50 Centennial Birthdays - Central Library

Mesa County Libraries is happy to participate in the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commemoration as the nation celebrates 250 years of independence along with the 150 year anniversary of Colorado becoming a state. The Mesa County Oral History Meetings typically take place on a monthly basis at the Central Library in Grand Junction from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are free of charge for the public to attend. Grand Junction is celebrating the 100th birthdays of the two highways that have brought businesses and tourists to Grand Junction after gravel roads were built in the 1900s along the railroads of the 1800s. Highway 6 was finally replaced by I-70 in the mid-1980s. Highway 50 has been continually upgraded over the years. The economy of Grand Junction is more dependent than ever on the highways to and from our town. Air and rail transportation makes up the rest of the commerce that has built Grand Junction. History at High Noon is held from 12 pm to 1 pm on the third Thursday of the month in the Central Library Community Room, in partnership with the Mesa County Historical Society. Seating is first-come, first-served.
