Hike the Pinnacles

TRAIL OVERVIEW Location: Berea College Forest Distance: 7-8 miles Elevation: 1800ft Route Type: Lolli Pop Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous Estimated time: 4-5 hours Trail Conditions: good ROUTE We’ll start at the trailhead for Indian Fort Theater and ease into the hike as we make our way toward East Pinnacle. We’ll take a short break at the East Pinnacle Overlook to soak in the early morning sun and enjoy the views. From there, we’ll continue on to Eagle’s Nest and Buzzard’s Roost before hiking over to Indian Fort Overlook, one of the best overlooks in the park. Our final stop will be West Pinnacle, where some light rock scrambling adds a little extra fun to the adventure. After soaking up the views from West Pinnacle, we’ll make our way back to the parking lot and return to our cars. Essential Hiking Gear * Sturdy hiking boots or shoes with good traction * 2-3 Liters of water, snacks & lunch * backpack to hold gear * Weather-appropriate layers (53-78 degrees) * Trekking poles (optional) Experience Level: This is a great hike for both new and experienced hikers. If you’re looking to build strength, improve endurance, and gain confidence on longer routes, this hike will be a solid challenge in a supportive group setting. Directions to the trailhead: I-75 south, take Berea exit 76, Hwy 21, go left (east) into Berea. After passing the small business district and Berea College, come to the intersection where Hwy 25 splits off left (see Boone Tavern Hotel on left). Continue on Hwy 21 to the right. From this point drive 3 miles; look for driveway(s) on the left side of the road, turn into large parking lot.
