HER OWN MAKING INSERTING OURSELVES INTO THE NARRATIVE Join us for a panel discussion on how women build creative practices and careers on their own terms. Artist Christine Welman brings together women from Milwaukee’s arts and design community, each with a different story of carving out her place in the creative world. Together, they’ll share the experiences that shaped their careers and the choices that helped them find their way. The discussion takes place during the opening reception of “Athena on My Mind,” Welman’s solo art exhibition exploring Athena as both mythological figure and personal symbol. Through painting and poetry, Welman considers the courage it takes to grow into yourself, resist the forces that seek to define you, and continue creating along the way. Together, the panel and exhibition ask what it is like to seek to become our fullest selves. Presenter Christine Welman creates paintings and stories based on myth, legend, and dreams. Welman teaches oil painting and serves as curator at Mitchell Street Arts in Milwaukee, WI.
