From the show-stopping optimism of Hello, Dolly! to the irresistible spirit of Mame, the bold humanity of La Cage aux Folles, and the lush theatrical sweep of Mack and Mabel, Jerry Herman gave audiences melodies with lift, lyrics with heart, and characters who refused to dim their own light.
