About this event
No ordinary "walk in the park." This will be a moderate urban-park hike, partially on long-forgotten trails. The trails are dry. Hike among a huge variety of very old trees planted over 80 years ago when the park was created. There are Banyan, Gumbo Limbo, Florida Oak, Slash Pines, and Cypress trees among the collection. Hike through limestone cliffs along the Oleta River. A walking stick is highly recommended. No flip flops The entire park is from a bygone era, but it's been updated and looks absolutely fabulous. I was there today. Guests and younger folks (accompanied by a guardian) are welcome. Directions: Enter Greynolds Park at 17530 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL., and park in the left parking lot almost immediately after you enter. You'll need to pay the parking fee, about 8 dollars, online on your iPhone or equivalent. Meet at 9:00 a.m. The hike begins after we have our introductions. After the hike, if time permits, we may visit the nearby monastery, also from a bygone era. Hike Leader: Jimmy 954-695-1026 Steve, 914-953-2222, text preferred. Give yourself extra time to find the park. If you arrive late, you'll need to look for us, which may not be easy.
