Grade Level Chess Championship Join us for the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s Grade Level Chess Championship on October 3, 2026! Since school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to not only exercise their skills, but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills, which directly translates to their math, science and reading scores. Unrated Divisions: Unrated Divisions will play 5 Rounds SS, G/25, d5 K-1 K-3 K-5 USCF Rated Divisions: Rated Divisions will play 4 Rounds SS, G/35, d5. Players in these divisions must have USChess Membership. Membership sign-ups will be available on-site and on their website. K-7 K-9 K-12 Registration Fees: $30 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants (For both MCM Members & Non-Members) $8 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child (Free for MCM Members) All fees will increase for day-of participants and accompanying adult/child. Please Note: All entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the duration of the event Pre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 7:15am – 8:15am. Walk-ins are welcome! Please note that seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we highly recommend pre-registering. Rounds: First Round starts at 8:30am Chess sets (board/pieces/clocks) will be provided for use during the tournament. 1st Place & Top Girl Tiebreaks: Will be determined by two G/5+3 games to be played at the end of the Last round. With a tie of three or four players, a single round robin of G/5+3 will be played. If blitz games tie, Armageddon match(es) determined by bid.
