Got Sun? Grow Food!
#image-595 + picture img { --focal-point: 50% 50%; } | Think you need a big backyard to grow vegetables? Think again! Learn how to grow fresh veggies in any sunny spot—from suburban gardens to patios and balconies. Advanced Master Gardener Karen Mitchell will discuss how to choose the best vegetables for your space and inspire you with easy, rewarding options for a spring and summer garden. Perfect for beginners and small-space gardeners. Location: Adventure Classroom Instructor: Karen Mitchell Karen Mitchell retired from AT&T in 2008 after 31 years. She was certified as a Master Gardener in 2009, and her first project was spearheading the initial planting of the Hand in Hand Children’s Garden at United Ability of Birmingham. She is very interested in growing vegetables (where sun permits) in small spaces, in raised beds, or any container she deems fit. In past years, Karen chaired the vegetable booth at the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale, and deems herself a vegetable gardening evangelist. Karen also loves hydrangeas and is the past president of the Alabama Hydrangea Society. Concerns for watering hydrangeas and other plants during drought motivated her to install hose-end irrigation tubing with adjustable emitters to water plants at their base.
