About this event

Garden to Glass: Exploring Bitters Workshop Friday, November 13th 6:30 — 8:00pm McDonald Farm 10S404 Knoch Knolls Rd Naperville, IL 60565 $30 per person Bitters are not part of our standard American diet, yet they’re widely consumed around the world for health and flavor. Our bodies are specifically designed for bitters but we’re losing out on the vast health benefits they provide such as improved digestion, appetite suppression, enhanced immunity and more. Join us for a workshop led by Ellyn Schmitz for an enlightening evening exploring nature’s bitters. We’ll be tasting different bitter preparations while learning how vital they are to our health. We’ll also cover various bitter preparations you can make at home as well as some bitters you can find in nature or grow in your own garden. Speaker: Ellyn Schmitz Ellyn helps others discover and deepen their connection to the healing power of plants, mushrooms, and nature. She is an avid student of nature, particularly edible and medicinal plants, and the philosophy of living close to the earth. Ellyn has studied extensively in both earth-based and western herbal traditions. For over 30 years she learned earth-based traditions from Tom Brown Jr. which were passed-down from a Lipan Apache medicine man where she’s also a member of the Keepers of the Plant Wisdom Medicine Society. She also studies with many of the elders from the Western Herbalism traditions including Paul Bergner, Richo Cech, Matthew Wood, Christopher Hobbs, Margi Flint among many others. Ellyn blends both these traditions together to share how we can heal ourselves and the earth with plant medicine, mushrooms and nature. She’s taught a 12-month series on bioregional herbalism for many years at the Resiliency Institute, a non-profit organization offering hands-on educational programs in permaculture, wild edible plants and bioregional herbalism along with building community-based permaculture and edible forest gardens.
