Community Room. Join author, illustrator, and graphic novelist Katie Risor for a fun afternoon of art! For kids grades 3-5. Registration is required. Please register a seat for each child attending (accompanying adults do not need to register a seat). From Ideas to the Page is a look into the process of making a picture book or comic. This program focuses on the importance of iteration in illustration and writing -- it's okay to not get it right on the first try! Attendees will: hear a reading from Katie's first book learn about the writing and illustrating process design their own character! learn about iterative design Q&A with Katie! Katie Risor is an illustrator, author, and graphic novelist making books for kids. In 2021, her illustrations for Month of the Military Child won a Texas Advertising Award, and her debut author/illustrator early reader, Welcome to the Forest: The Harvest Party, was published in August 2025, the first in a four-part series. Katie grew up in Texas, but now lives in Syracuse with her partner, three cats, and the groundhog who lives under the porch. Learn more about Katie at katierisor.com.
