From Flat to Form: Paper Templates to Functional Pottery

In this course we will explore the design and use of paper templates to construct pottery forms from slabs. Cups, mugs, vases, and jar forms will be areas of focus and we will also explore various surface decoration techniques including terra sigilatta, vinyl stencil fabrication, glazing, and other finishing options. Students will practice the process of making and handling of slabs, and constructing successful pottery forms with handbuilding techniques. Work will be bisque-fired at the end of class. Prerequisite: Foundational ceramics experience requested. Students are asked to bring the following supplies Any standard studio tools that you already have and use.
