Kristina Rodel Sorum is a sought-after Minneapolis-based mezzo-soprano with a breadth of experience as a soloist and chorister. Passionate about all forms of vocal music, she moves effortlessly between classical and modern repertoire. She is as much at home soloing in Handel’s Messiah as she is premiering brand-new art song and opera. Praised as “lovely” in the Minnesota Star Tribune for her performance as the alto soloist in J.S. Bach Cantata 147 with Bach Society of Minnesota, she lends a clear, approachable sound and a warm and inviting artistry to every performance. Kristina is a frequent recitalist, having made her Schubert Club recital premiere in 2025, and performing regularly as a solo artist on the Courtroom Concert Series. Kristina is a two-time award winner at SongSlam Minneapolis, collaborating with top composers Isaac Lovdahl (2020) and Timothy C. Takach (2025). The event, which highlights new art song, is jointly presented by Source Song Festival and Sparks & Wiry Cries. In high demand as a chorister, Kristina has appeared with ensembles such as the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers (2016-present), Bach Society of Minnesota, Bach Roots Festival, the Minnesota Renaissance Choir, Consortium Carissimi, The Singers: Minnesota Choral Artists, The Minnesota Chorale, and imPulse. She has also appeared with Opera Reading Project, Journey North Opera (formerly Twin Cities Fringe Opera), The Twin Cities Early Music Festival, the Lakes Area Music Festival, the Lyra Baroque Orchestra, and the Prague Summer Nights Young Artist Festival. Together with KT Thompson (Accordion and Piano) and John Thompson (Guitar and Ukulele), Kristina sings lead vocals in Musettikka: a genre-spanning cover band performing art song, bluegrass, musical theater, jazz, American Songbook, and more.
