St. Augustine Founders’ Day Celebration Saturday, September 12 Mission Nombre de Dios 101 San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine Join fellow faithful Catholics and community members as we celebrate the 461st Anniversary of the Founding of St. Augustine, the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the United States. Together, we will honor the rich history of our Catholic heritage and give thanks for the faith brought to Florida in 1565. Schedule of Events 10:00 a.m. Historical Landing Reenactment and Proclamation Witness the reenactment of Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés’ landing at Mission Nombre de Dios. Free admission and parking. Following the Reenactment Holy Mass at the Rustic Altar Celebrate the Eucharist in thanksgiving for the missionaries, settlers, and generations of faithful Catholics who helped shape our history. Please bring a folding chair. 12:00 p.m. Procession to the Fountain of Youth Join in a prayerful procession from the Mission grounds to the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. Regular park admission applies. On September 8, 1565, Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés landed on these shores, claimed Florida for Spain, and established St. Augustine. Most importantly, the expedition brought the Catholic faith to this new land, marking the beginning of a lasting spiritual legacy that continues to inspire us today. Come celebrate our shared heritage, deepen your appreciation for the history of our faith, and join us in prayer and thanksgiving for God’s blessings through the centuries. All are welcome!
