Finding Place in a Warming World @Portland Public Library at Portland Public Library Portland in Portland, ME on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Join us for an event in the Rines Auditorium at the Portland Public Library where Dr. Kate Olson will read from her forthcoming book, which documents lived experiences of climate change in Maine and explores how communities are reimagining a relationship to place amidst the unpredictable currents of climate change. We'll meet at 5:15pm so we can grab seats and chat before the event starts at 5:30pm. Dr. Kate Olson is a writer, climate sociologist, and mother. Her work explores the interconnections among people, places, and livelihoods in a changing climate, from mega-dams in Southeast Asia to clam harvesting in rural Maine. Her forthcoming book, Living Change: Finding Place in a Warming World, explores reconnecting with place as an antidote to climate despair. I'll post a comment on the event when I arrive so you know how to find us. Stay home if you're feeling ill or exposed to someone sick.
