About this event

Join a screening of the documentary "Ultimate Citizens," followed by Q&A with filmmaker Francine Strickwerda. For high schoolers and older. Ultimate Citizens follows Jamshid Khajavi, a witty, warm Iranian American who becomes a mentor to immigrant and refugee students through counseling at Seattle schools. By creating a team around Ultimate Frisbee, he helps kids find healing. In his personal life, Jamshid models strength and resilience by performing nearly “impossible” feats, like swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar and becoming a three-time grand slam winner of ultra-running an ultra-endurance athlete. Of local interest is his memorable Polar Bear plunge from Mercer Island’s Clarke Beach in 1997. Registration is not required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Island Library.
