Film Screening & Talkback: Fiddler on the Moon: Judaism in Space

Admission: $34 Members: $30 Finally. An answer to the question that has plagued scientists, theologians, and comedians for millennia: Will Judaism survive in space? Join us for a special screening of the short film Fiddler on the Moon: Judaism in Space. In this documentary, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, astronauts Jeffrey Hoffman and Jessica Meir, and a quorum of rabbis and researchers will explore how Jewish traditions could be practiced in space. Guest speakers Lawrence L. Faltz and Peter Spenser from Westchester Amateur Astronomers (WAA) will hold a discussion after the screening. A light lunch will be served. See the film trailer. About Westchester Amateur Astronomers WAA is a not-for-profit organization open to people of all ages with the desire to learn more about astronomy and who share an interest in viewing the universe. We range from enthusiastic amateurs and educators to casual stargazers and families. WAA was founded by three friends who wanted to help the general public see Halley’s Comet during its 1986 fly-by. They went on to found Westchester Amateur Astronomers in 1991. Activities include monthly presentations by respected names in astronomy and related sciences and observing nights beneath Westchester’s darkest skies. About the Speakers Lawrence L. Faltz is a retired physician and former chief medical officer of Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow from 1994 to 2017. He is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Columbia University, and NYU School of Medicine. Like many New Yorkers, his interest in astronomy was kindled by trips to the Hayden Planetarium. He was president of Westchester Amateur Astronomers from 2013 to 2018 and now edits its award-winning newsletter. Peter Spenser has 45+ years of experience in technology and financial services, including many years as a senior partner at Deloitte Consulting and a board member of a global banking software company.
