About this event
Although many know how Gandhi inspired Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of nonviolence, fewer people know how the Kural, a two-thousand-year-old Tamil book of wisdom, inspired Gandhi. A hidden thread thus joins this south Indian classic, Gandhi, and Dr. King. In this talk presented by Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma, explore these connections across languages and lands, and the ways that these visionaries—and the Kural itself—can inspire clarity and courageous action in our own time and place. Registration not required. Space is limited. This presentation is part of Humanities Washington's Speakers Bureau program, in which cultural experts discuss history, politics, music, philosophy, and everything in between. Humanities Washington opens minds and bridges divides by creating spaces to explore different perspectives. It is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities is available by request. Email access@kcls.org at least seven days before the event. Automated closed captioning is always available for online events.
