Exploring the Personal Essay $35.00 Sunday, September 26 – 10:30 AM–12:00 PM Discover the personal essay as a flexible, enduring form of storytelling, then experiment with a contemporary version of your own. What you’ll do You’ll take a brief look at the history and range of the personal essay before diving into the micro essay, a short-form approach to personal storytelling. Read and discuss examples, experiment with generative writing exercises, develop ideas for your own pieces, and make a plan for what comes next. You’ll also learn about opportunities to submit your writing for publication. Sharing your own writing with the group is always optional. What you’ll learn What makes a personal essay memorable What makes a micro essay stand out Ways to generate and develop ideas for personal essays Where to discover great contemporary writing Where and how to begin looking for publication opportunities Great for: Seasoned writers, beginning writers, and curious readers alike. If you love words, sentences, stories, and ideas, this workshop offers a welcoming place to begin, return to, or sustain a writing practice. Instructor: Camilia Cenek is a writer and editor whose work centers on memoir and creative nonfiction. She brings a thoughtful, supportive approach to class, helping students move past doubt and begin shaping their stories with more clarity and confidence.
