Explorers Club Live: Worlds Rarely Seen – Light in the Darkness

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to bring you an exciting event on Sunday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre: Explorers Club Live: Worlds Rarely Seen – Light in the Darkness. Explorers Club members Dr. Jut Wynne and Paul D. Maley will give a joint lecture. Dr. Jut Wynne Dr. Jut Wynne is a cave ecologist, conservation ecologist, and explorer based in Flagstaff, Arizona. At Northern Arizona University’s Department of Biological Sciences, he leads the Cave Ecology and Exploration Lab, where he studies how cave-dwelling animals live, what they need to survive, and how human activity affects these fragile systems. His fieldwork has taken him across the American Southwest and around the world, including Rapa Nui, Belize, Spain, Chile, China, and Bhutan, where he is helping to understand life in largely unexplored cave systems. Wynne and his collaborators have discovered multiple new arthropod genera and dozens of new species, and he advocates including subterranean ecosystems in global climate and biodiversity efforts. Working at the intersection of cave science and planetary exploration, he has also advanced our understanding of caves across the solar system. A Fulbright Scholar and Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer, he is also an engaging public speaker. Paul D. Maley Paul D. Maley has been a leading figure in astronomical observation for more than five decades. A former NASA contractor for 41 years supporting Mission Operations and the Flight Director’s Office, he has been a member of the Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society since 1969. Since organizing his first solar eclipse expedition in 1970, Maley has observed…
