About this event
Every Brilliant Thing is a moving, funny, and life-affirming play about depression, hope, and the countless reasons—large and small—that make life worth living. The story begins when a young person, faced with a parent’s struggle with depression, starts making a list of everything brilliant in the world: ice cream, staying up past your bedtime, being allowed to watch TV, the color yellow, and thousands more. As the list grows, it follows the character through childhood and into adulthood, becoming an exploration of family, love, loss, mental health, and our capacity to find joy even in difficult circumstances. Presented as a co-production between the North Idaho College Theatre Department and the University of Idaho Department of Theatre Arts, Every Brilliant Thing combines storytelling, humor, and audience participation to create an intimate theatrical experience that is different at every performance. The production comes to North Idaho College’s Schuler Performing Arts Center on September 17 and 18 following performances at the University of Idaho. Presented in connection with suicide awareness and prevention efforts, the production offers an opportunity to engage with an important subject through a compassionate, accessible, and ultimately hopeful piece of theatre. Performances: September 17–18, 2026 Location: Schuler Performing Arts Center, North Idaho College Every Brilliant Thing contains mature themes and discussions of depression and suicide. Audience discretion is advised.
