This year at SMJ we have a new art exhibition and we’ll be open during the Eugene First Friday ArtWalk! The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House (SMJH), in partnership with curators Aidyn Dervaes and Lizi Anderson-Cleary are pleased to announce the opening of (Kin)etic: Contemporary Contemplations in the Shelton McMurphey Johnson House from October 1st to November 15th in Eugene, OR. The exhibition showcases contemporary artists from the Pacific Northwest skilled in weaving, textiles, or related practices. The medium and selected works consider themes of tradition, lineage, identity, memory, and history. By placing contemporary works within the historic home, the exhibition encourages us to look at the site’s history from multiple perspectives. Featured artists: Andrew Douglas Campbell, Sara Siestreem (Hanis Coos), E.R.Saba, Bella Kim, Brenetta Ward, Allyce Wood, and Vo Vo. Generously supported by the Lane County Cultural Coalition with funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust. This exhibition was also supported by the Shelton McMurphey Johnson House, which generously opened its historic site as a space for conversation, exploration, and reflection. We are grateful for their support and collaboration.
