About this event

(Mejia, 2026) El Grito, translating to, “the Cry,” is a historic turning point in Latin American history. On September 16, 1810, in Dolores, Mexico, Fr. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the parish bell, igniting the Mexican community to come together to push back against their Spanish rulers and gain their independence. The New Orleans Jazz Museum celebrates El Grito annually with a ceremony alongside the Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans. Bring your family and friends to join us for this evening of celebrating Mexican Independence in our balcony and courtyard area. ¡Viva México! This event is at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, but please enter through our rear gates located at 401 Barracks Street. El Grito Portland. (2026, August 7). About El Grito - El Grito Portland.
