Produced by the band alongside collaborator Jimi Woodul, the album captures the raw chemistry that has defined Eastbound Jesus’s sound for years, carrying the group into a second decade of making music together. The sessions embrace the grit and energy of the band’s Northern Rock style. The resulting record continues the band’s blend of Americana storytelling, bluegrass instrumentation, and road-tested rock and roll. By recording in their regular weekly practice space, the band was able to slow down and experiment, creating performances that feel both intimate and expansive. Hard To Get To Heaven showcases Eastbound Jesus’s signature high-energy roots sound while exploring deep and reflective songwriting—marking some of the band’s most thoughtful work to date. Their music is a captivating blend of high energy, tight pockets, and just enough improvisational grease, that delivers a unique twist on traditional bluegrass sound. In 2019, guitarist Eli Martell-Crawford and mandolinist Alex Skowron started a musical partnership in Bozeman, Montana. At the base of the Bridger Mountains, they formed a communicative musical bond that has resulted in innovative string music spanning the traditional ideal and pushing a unique style into unknown territory. A move east to Vermont introduced life changes, ambitions, and musicians.
