Young Eagles: Inspiring the next generation of aviators with free airplane rides! Meeting & Presentation: Vigilant Aerospace Systems - Drones, learn about the latest developments in drone technology and applications. EAA Chapter 1098 welcomes you to our Young Eagles Rally. Our skilled pilots provide their time, airplane and fuel to provide free introductory flights to youth ages 8-17. It's the only program of it's kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation. Our pilots will provide a walk around pre-flight inspection of the airplane, identify reference points for the flight, identify aircraft control surfaces and assist with safely buckling your child's seat belt and describe the interior of the airplane. You child may bring a cell phone or small camera to take photos or video during the flight. At the pilot's discretion, your child may be able to take the controls to fly. The flight will last approximately 20 minutes around the Shawnee area. After the flight, each child will receive a certificate of completion signed by their pilot and a log book Meet the Pilot The pilots who participate in the Young Eagles program are local members of EAA who are volunteering their time and aircraft to make your flight possible. Each Young Eagles pilot is certificated with the Federal Aviation Administration or Transport Canada. Flights are conducted according to federal regulations, and no aerobatic maneuvers will be performed. A pilot's complete youth protection training and vetted via a background check. What will the pre-flight be like? The pilot will explain what your child will see and do. This may include explaining how airplanes work, looking at an aeronautical chart (or map), and describing the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel.
