Dr. Donna Coleman, Recital with Commentary

About this event

Howard Room. The Blue Hill Public Library will present a performance and lecture by concert pianist Dr. Donna Coleman on Friday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m. in the library's Howard Room. Internationally renowned concert pianist Dr. Donna Coleman presents a "Twilight Recital-with-Commentary" featuring works by composers who lived in or otherwise had close ties to Blue Hill and the surrounding area. This performance will feature works by Horatio William Parker (1863–1919), Ethelbert Woodbridge Nevin (1862-1901), and Arthur Finley Nevin (1871-1943). Dr. Coleman weaves, writes, walks, studies, and photographs the stars, and contemplates the deepest mysteries of the Universe, which she transforms into rarefied interpretations of music. Performances and recording projects have taken her to four continents for solo and ensemble concerts, and for workshops featuring her "Dancing with the Piano" philosophy of music-making. Her research into American and twentieth century repertories, with focus on the music of Charles Ives, created two internationally acclaimed recordings for Et’Cetera Records and earned fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the North Carolina and the Southern Arts Federations, the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fulbright Foundation, Radcliffe College, and Second Prize in the first John F. Kennedy Center International American Music Competition, among other awards. This free program is sponsored by the library and open to all.
