About this event
Often dismissed as the stuff of music festivals and someone’s “life-changing” weekend in a field, psychedelics are being used to treat some of the most common mental health conditions. In this talk, we’ll discuss what researchers are finding about MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD and psilocybin - the active compound in what most people know as “magic mushrooms” - for depression in carefully supported therapeutic settings. You’ll hear a real life personal experience: what it felt like, what was surprising, and how it affected the brain and mental health afterward. The session will explore science, trauma, depression, neuroplasticity, and the possibility that sometimes healing looks like giving the brain a supervised, deeply weird opportunity to reorganize. Come curious and leave with fewer assumptions and probably one excellent mushroom joke. *For bonus points, check out the “How to Change Your Mind” documentary on Netflix.*
