Disco emerged in the early 1970s and dominated the airwaves for most of the decade. The music was characterized by "four-on-the-floor" beats, orchestral strings, and synthesizers, and artists like the Bee Gees, Abba and Donna Summer became international stars with songs like Stayin Alive, Dancing Queen and I Feel Love. As the 70s turned into the 80s, disco became less popular, but the style has had a resurgence more recently, as artists like Daft Punk and Chromeo experiment with the same sonic ingredients.
