About this event
Main Floor of the Library. Celebrate strategy, focus, and fun with us at the Dick Powell Memorial Chess Tournament! Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, this friendly community tournament is the perfect way to test your skills, meet fellow chess enthusiasts, and enjoy an afternoon of thoughtful competition. Great first beginner tournament - if you know how the pieces move, this tournament is for you! Open to all ages. WHAT TO BRING: - Your own chess sets & clocks, if you have them. A limited number will be available onsite. - Water bottles and food, if desired. Light snacks will be provided for free by the library. REGISTRATION: Online preregistration is strongly encouraged: https://easypairchess.com/public/tournaments Sign-in/late registration starts 30 minutes before the respective section If you want to play in the Non-Rated Community section and don’t have a US Chess membership, put “0” when prompted for your USCF number. By registering for this event, you are sharing your information with a third party website not affiliated with the Library If you are playing the non-rated section, put non-rated in response instead of a US chess membership number. If you want to play in a rated section (like the kids PK-8th grade only tournament) and need help with the form or signing up for a discount US Chess membership, contact the tournament director below, preferably before the day of the tournament. TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE & TIMELINE: Four sections - Rated Open (most advanced players) - first round starts at 12:00 pm (noon) - Rated Under 1000 - first round starts at 12:15pm - Rated Under 500 - first round starts at 12:30pm - Non-Rated Community - first round starts at 12:45pm - Four rounds of Swiss style tournament (no elimination) in each section.
