Dick Lowenthal and his Big Band, with vocalist Lisanne Lyons, will perform music of the great arrangers of the past 100 years. Arrangers like Billy Strayhorn and Mary Lou Williams for Duke Ellington; Fletcher Henderson for Benny Goodman; and Frank Foster and Billy Byers for Count Basie. In addition they will perform music of Gerry Mulligan, Bob Mintzer, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Gil Evans. The band consists of many of the outstanding jazz performers in South Florida. Dick’s experiences include performances with Ella Fitzgerald, Clark Terry, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, and Cher. He also has conducted the Special Unit of the Glenn Miller Orchestra for 10 years, including at the Tony Awards, several concert tours of Poland, Paris, Japan, South America, and Crystal Cruises. He also has conducted concerts with Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Gerry Mulligan, Paquito D’Rivera and Cyrille Aimee among others. PERFORMER BIOS: Dick Lowenthal In addition, Richard Lowenthal, Professor Emeritus, is a noted Jazz Educator for the past 55 years. He founded the Jazz Program at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and was Chair of the Department and Conductor of the award -winning Jazz Orchestra for 19 years. He served as Vice-President of the National Association of Jazz Educators and Chair of the National Music Council. and is former Chair of the Board of Directors of the Arts Garage. He instituted a unique program of Adult Education at the Arts Garage called Jazz and Java, one of a kind in Florida. Lisanne Lyons Miami-based jazz vocalist, pianist, and arranger Lisanne Lyons has built an acclaimed career as both a performer and educator. She has shared the stage with celebrated artists including Arturo Sandoval, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, and George Benson. Lyons began her professional career at just 17 years old as a featured vocalist for three U.S. Air Force bands, performing throughout the United States and Canada at major jazz festivals and concert…
