About this event

Teens will explore the history and cultural significance of piñatas while using art, design, and engineering skills to create their own colorful piñata to take home! Piñatas are a colorful part of Mexican culture, especially during birthdays, holidays, and community celebrations. Although piñatas have roots in earlier traditions from Asia and Europe, they became an important part of Mexican celebrations during the colonial period. The traditional seven-pointed star piñata represents the seven deadly sins, while breaking the piñata symbolizes overcoming temptation. The treats inside represent rewards and blessings. Today, piñatas symbolize joy, creativity, community, and celebration. Fun Fact: Traditional Mexican piñatas were often made from clay pots covered with colorful paper. Today, most are made from cardboard and papier-mâché. For pre-teens 10 to 13. For teens 13 to 19. Accessibility Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
