Demonstration: Beading the Seven Generations and the Grandfathers Teachings

Sofia Vanderlan is the inaugural Grand Portage National Monument Artist-in-Resident. While Sofia will be doing work in Grand Portage and at the Monument throughout her residency, she will also have studio space at the Art Colony. For her residency, Sofia will create a piece that braids the seven generations before us, the seven grandfather teachings, and the seven generations after us. A piece that represents the history of Grand Portage National Monument and what it represents to the community and Anishinaabe people. Join us September 5 for her demonstration at Studio 21 and to learn more about her residency work. This event is free and open to anyone interested. Along with her demonstration at the Art Colony on September 5th, Sofia will be available at the Heritage Center: September 1 – 4 | 11 AM – 1 PM September 8 – 11 | 11 AM – 1 PM September 12 | Artist Talk | 12 – 1 PM This residency is conducted in partnership with Grand Portage National Monument and the National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation.
