About this event

Trainees in graduate school and those doing postdoctoral work are subject to stressors that are not always within their control. Uncertainty about future employment and how others respond to their work and decisions are just two examples among many. This uncertainty can contribute to anxiety, making it difficult to determine what to do, what to say, or to whom to turn to for support. In this session, participants will engage in a reflective process to distinguish which aspects of a stressful situation are within their control, partly within their control, and outside of their control. They will then explore strategies for managing uncertainty and coping with aspects they cannot change. Lunch provided on a first-come, first-served basis De-Stress Power Hour creates space for you to de-stress in a safe environment, talk to other trainees about your experiences, and learn skills that you can take back into your personal and academic life to take control of your situation. This workshop is led by Student Clinicians, in collaboration with the UAB Master of Arts in Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness. Trainees from all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty, staff, or administrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other trainees, spend an hour to invest in your wellness, and skill-build around the monthly topic. For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Laurence Boitet (Lmblac@uab.edu).
