Culture and Craft: Moravian Stars

Originating in Germany in the 1830s, Moravian stars are a poignant symbol of the Advent and Christmas season with their many points and beautiful, geometric design. In the Moravian church, the star has multiple meanings including Jesus as the Morning Star, the star of Bethlehem, and the promise of God shining brightly in the darkness. We will explore the history and various meanings of the star, including as both a religious symbol and a symbol of German heritage and Christmastime while crafting our own beautiful stars from paper.
