Mark Almond, horn Keith Buncke, bassoon Umi Garrett, piano Jennifer Gunn, flute William Welter, oboe Stephen Williamson, clarinet Musicians from the renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra explore musical satire and parody. Milhaud’s La Cheminée du roi René, an amusing collection of musical miniatures, opens the program. Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Winds—a lighthearted piece whose second movement caricatures Mozart’s slow movements—is paired with Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds. Join us for a pre-concert lecture (2:00 PM) with Assistant Professor Paula Harper and post-concert discussion with the artists moderated by Professor Harper.
