About this event

In this workshop we’ll make two journals, using a non-adhesive binding technique that is easy to replicate at home. Crossed Structure bindings, inspired by the long stitch bindings of the medieval era, are uniquely constructed by interlocking the front and back paper cover at the spine. The inner signatures are sewn to the stiff paper cover and the book opens completely flat, making it ideal for sketchbooks and journals. You’ll learn two of the Crossed Structure variations and leave with an understanding of materials, tools, and processes to make more on your own! Level: Intermediate—Introduction to Bookmaking and/or similar experience with basic bookmaking techniques (6 hours or more) is required. Registration closes December 5, 2026. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students may want to gather additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.
