Over the course of seven sessions, we will journey through the Trivium, the arts of language: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric; and the Quadrivium, the arts of number: Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy, exploring how these ancient disciplines provide the ultimate framework for original thought and creative mastery. This opening one-hour lecture focuses on the first step of the Trivium: Grammar. Far from being a dry set of rules for punctuation, classical Grammar is the art of *perceiving and naming reality*. It is the foundational stage of the creative process, the gathering of raw material and the precise observation of the world around us. Before we can reason (Logic) or persuade (Rhetoric), we must first learn to see with clarity and name with intent.
