Craft-Focused Workshop: Personalized Feedback on Work in Progress

About this event

This craft-focused workshop is built around personalized feedback on work in progress. Each session, the group reads and discusses four writers’ submissions, and for every piece, the instructor prepares an individual craft lesson—the one element she believes will most help that piece take its next step forward. This is workshopping in the traditional model, with three things added. Every writer receives detailed, line-level editing and concrete revision strategies. Feedback leads with strengths, naming what each piece is already doing well before offering where the greatest opportunity lies, because writers revise most effectively from their best work, and often don’t yet see what that is. Feedback is framed as craft questions—what is this scene asking for, where does the work want to build—so that writers leave with direction they can act on. Weekly Structure Each class session will include: • Four custom craft lessons drawn from the pieces under discussion, applicable to all • Collaborative workshopping of four participants’ submissions • Scene-writing practice and supportive read-alouds of new work • Q&A on craft and technique What Writers Will Gain • Personalized, craft-based feedback on their work in progress across the full term • Custom craft lessons matched to each writer’s specific needs • Detailed, line-level editing and clear, actionable revision strategies Course Outcome By the end of the term, writers will have a confident sense of their strengths and their clearest opportunities to grow, and a set of scene-writing tools they can return to. They will also leave with a supportive community of working writers and the accountability to keep going—carrying their project forward with direction and momentum.
