Copper Plate Etching (Sept 2026)

Join local artist Nina Hees to explore copper plate etching. In this 2-day workshop, students will learn how to prepare, mark, design, etch, ink, and print to create their own unique image. Saturday 9/26 from 10am - 1pm students go through safety briefings and watch demonstrations before working with their own copper plate hands-on to prepare their image for etching. Etching takes place in ferric chloride before cleaning up. Workshop continues on Sunday 9/27 from 10am - 1pm students learn how to ink plates by hand with multiple techniques and how to use the etching presses in the studio space. By the end of the 2-day workshop students will be have their own print and be qualified to make an appointment with Laika Press in the future. Open to all experience levels. Recommended for those with intaglio experience. Processes are non-toxic or as low-toxicity as possible. A sliding scale is available for those on low/restricted income.
