About this event

Carnegie Room, 3rd floor. Fascination with where the mind is located, how it works and how its function becomes disordered have occupied man’s thoughts from antiquity to present. The current consensus is that (i) the mind is located largely in the limbic system of the brain, (ii) it can be interrogated in real time through electrical recording, various types of imaging and targeted conversation; and (iii) its function can be modified by pharmacology and various learning techniques used in psychiatry. Join us to explore how all of this seems to work. Oct 5: Establishing that mind is in brain Oct 19: Human behavior and some abnormalities Oct 26: Key aspects of psychiatry including the psychiatric exam Nov 2: History of psychiatry and its treatments Nov 9: Neuroscience and psychopharmacology Nov 23: Future of psychiatry Nov 30: Response to worldwide mental health Dec 7: Philosophy of Mind: An Alternative Perspective? Presenter: Stanley Misler, MD, PhD, Emeritus Faculty, Washington University Medical Center with guest William S. Nelson, BSEE
