Saturday, October 10, 2026 12:00-2:00 p.m. JMKAC Theater and Lake Michigan lighthouse/North Jetties FREE Register Join Susie Ibarra, Jake Landau, the participants from Susie Ibarra’s Rhythm in Nature residency, and local ecology organizations at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center for an open community workshop exploring the ecology of rhythm in Sheboygan. To bring: Your own headphones with a 1/8th-inch jack cable Your own recording gear if possible/if you would like Note: You might be going on the sand during the nature walk. Starting at the Arts Center, Rhythm in Nature residency participants will talk about their experiences listening to nature, sound recording, and performing rhythms from the local ecosystem together. They will then lead their own communities on a sound and field-recording walk from the Arts Center to Lake Michigan, returning to the Arts Center to listen and reflect together. This will also be the official unveiling of an APP designed by Ibarra highlighting various natural locations in Sheboygan. Community members will be encouraged to explore the APP, which will feature notes by local experts in Sheboygan history, ornithology, waterways, and Indigenous lifeways, opening a portal and portable application for deep listening and slow looking. Willow Creek Preserve, Glacial Lakes Conservancy, Lake Michigan Bird Observatory, Maywood, Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership will also be in attendance, tabling and sharing their vital insights, resources, and mutual support in this convergence of music, rhythm, and nature.
