Community Conversation with Omaha For Us

Meeting Room 1. Community Conversation offers attendees an opportunity to explore a book, engage with diverse perspectives, participate in curious, open, and respectful dialogue, and build community connections. Attendees will participate in facilitated small-group discussions. This session will focus on Samantha Allen’s “Real Queer America: LGBT Stories From Red States”. Representatives from Omaha For Us will share reflections on the book from their individual perspectives and facilitate the conversation. Real Queer America takes readers on a cross-country road-trip stretching all the way from Provo, Utah to the Rio Grande Valley to the Bible Belt to the Deep South. Allen’s motto for the trip: "Something gay every day." Capturing profound cultural shifts underway in unexpected places and revealing a national network of chosen family fighting for a better world, this is a treasure trove of uplifting stories and a much-needed source of hope and inspiration in these divided times. Participants will benefit most if they read the book before attending. This is a free event. Registration is required and opens September 1. All Omaha Public Library locations are wheelchair accessible. Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
