Coffee and Clay with Nancy Bulkley

This class is offered simultaneously on Zoom. Let us know if you plan to take the class in-house or on Zoom. You still have the option to use our community studio for your studio time practice, if you desire. The options to produce works at home are for Zoom participants only. Objects such as cups, bowls, and vases should be made to enhance the beauty of what is served inside. All levels of experience are welcome to explore various methods of working with clay to make utilitarian objects that will adorn the dinner table. Beginners will be introduced to basic hand-building skills, and advanced students will be given more complex challenges with hand-building. We will work with soft and hard slabs to fabricate forms, while adding additional parts with other techniques such as coils and extrusions. We will learn about making and using templates to develop and duplicate shape designs. Techniques for designing and carving our own stamps for surface texture/decoration that can be incorporated with our forms will also be explored. We will complete our class with a breakfast potluck, using serving ware that we have made. Instructor: Nancy Bulkley Class fee: $245 Early bird discount of $10 is available through August 5. *Zoom participants will pick up their clay at the studio and bring works in for firing. You will be able to join in on the full class conversation and lesson. You also have the option to utilize our community studio work time in the studio. Zoom is a way to do clay with everyone, without leaving home. Our class is also available for Zoom* enrollment and participation. Please state your choice when you enroll. Class includes: Up to 25 pounds of clay, glazes, and firing. An extra clay firing package is available for purchase. 12 hours of community studio time that is valid through your class semester.
