About this event

Join us for Civic Tech Morning at BRASH Coffee at the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead. To support the coffee shop, we ask that you purchase a beverage or pastry during your visit. Free parking is available outside the coffee shop, or at the Center’s parking deck a short walk away. The discussion topic for this coffee chat will be Susi Durán's essay on Public Banking: [How Susi Durán Would Fix Atlanta](https://how-id-fix-atlanta.ghost.io/how-susi-duran-would-fix-atlanta-2/) From the essay: *A public bank, on the other hand, is publicly-owned and serves a public purpose to invest in the public good. It operates without profit motive and is governed with public oversight. This is an important distinction, and one that Atlanta needs for obvious reasons. Just as a credit union returns profits to its members, a public bank reinvests profits back to the public in ways that credit unions are unable to (due to scale) and private banks are unwilling to (due to greed).* Please read the essay in advance and come prepared to discuss it.
