About this event
This 2009 film is an adaptation of the iconic children’s book by Maurice Sendak (which was once banned). Yearning for escape and adventure, a young boy runs away from home and sails to an island filled with creatures that take him in as their king. This movie is rated PG and has a runtime of 1 hour and 41 minutes Cinema From the Margins is a curated film (and television) viewing series that seeks to highlight stories from often overlooked communities and people of diverse identities, with an emphasis on subjects that are relevant to our current time. Films in this series will start with a brief introduction prior to the movie and will be followed by the option to casually discuss afterwards. Our October pick celebrates Banned Books Week!
