About this event

Original music inspired by the cabarets of Europe circa 1939. “Chopin’s Heart (music) is brilliant. Vocals and lyrics really affecting.” – audience member Singers Jennifer Grimm, Maud Hixson and Prudence Johnson deliver composer Gary Rue’s beautiful songs. Here, these are inspired by the cabaret music of pre-World War II Warsaw, an artistic hotbed rivaling that of Berlin and Paris. Further, as Europe stands on the precipice in 1939, the past, present and future collide in these songs. Additionally, they cover emotions like longing, lust, betrayal, fear, hope, redemption, and of course, love. The show is titled “Chopin’s Heart” after the famous composer Frederic Chopin. Also, he asked that, upon his death in Paris, his heart be removed and taken back to his beloved Warsaw. Nearly a religious icon, Chopin’s heart became a rallying cry for partisans during the war. There, they secreted it into the countryside until peace returned. Here, the show features pianist extraordinaire Dan Chouinard and the vibrant violin of Randy Sabien. Additionally, Chopin’s Heart composer and lyricist Gary Rue, co-creator of nearly 100 scores for musical theatre. Recommended for fans of Melomani, Henryk Wars, Kurt Weill and George Gershwin.
