Capturing the Scent of Time is a series of bilingual bookmaking workshops inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s philosophy of “the art of lingering.” Led by artists Patricia Cazorla and Nancy Saleme, with guest artist and Pulitzer Prize winner Medar de la Cruz, the program invites participants to slow down, observe, reflect, and create through drawing, photography, watercolor, creative writing, and bookbinding. Participants will explore the relationship between visual art, writing, nature, and contemplation, including guided observation and creative activities connected to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Throughout the program, they will create personal artist books and contribute to a collective book. Materials + snacks are included. About the Artists Cazorla + Saleme are an aunt-and-niece LatAm artist duo—a painter and a sculptor—whose work reflects on migration, displacement, and the search for belonging and connection through color, form, and poetic symbolism. Community engagement is central to their public art practice and includes collaborations with the Mead Public Library in Sheboygan, Brooklyn Public Library, and Newark Public Library. Their work has been recognized by NALAC, the Puffin Foundation, UNIQLO/NYC Parks, El Museo del Barrio, NYC DOT, the Garment District Alliance, NYC Health + Hospitals, the City of Newark, Project for Empty Space, Brooklyn Arts Council, LMCC, and The Newark Museum of Art. Internationally, they participated in the 19th Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh. Cazorla + Saleme have held residencies at Vermont…
