Building a New Generation of Javascript ML by Laurie Lay, Sr SW Eng at Ippon

Presentation Abstract **Rage Against the Python Machine: Building a New Generation of Javascript ML** When we hear 'AI' in 2026, we tend to think chatbots and API calls to massive Large Language Models. But powerful intelligence in your application doesn’t always require the network latency, cost, and conversational overhead of an LLM. This talk explores the "other" side of AI: silent, efficient machine learning that runs directly in the browser. We’ll walk through practical use cases such as real-time predictions, basic neural networks, and server-side inference using pre-trained models. You’ll see live demos of models running in Node, learn when to use JavaScript-native tools vs. integrating with Python, and leave with a clear understanding of how to bring ML capabilities into production-ready applications. Whether you're a full-stack developer or frontend engineer curious about machine learning, this session will show you how to get started—using the tools you already know. **Presenter's Biography** **Laurie Lay** Laurie is a Senior Software Engineer and People Manager at Ippon Technologies, specializing in fullstack development and intuitive software solutions.
