On the Program From the bright lights of Broadway to the timeless standards of the Great American Songbook, experience cherished songs performed by a world-class singer and NHSO chamber ensemble. Featured Performers Musicians of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra Amy Maude Helfer, Featured Vocalist Amy Maude Helfer is a versatile singing actor whose career spans Broadway favorites, American musical theatre, operetta, and opera. Known for her rich mezzo-soprano voice, lively stage presence, and flair for comedy, she has performed leading and featured roles with companies throughout the United States. Her musical-theatre credits include Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Petra in A Little Night Music, Sister Margaretta in The Sound of Music, and concert programs celebrating Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, Kander and Ebb, and the Golden Age of Broadway. In summer 2026, she returns to Union Avenue Opera as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof. Maude is also a principal mezzo with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players. Her many roles with the company include the title role in Iolanthe, Phoebe in The Yeomen of the Guard, Tessa in The Gondoliers, Lady Angela in Patience, and Pitti-Sing in The Mikado. She has appeared at New York City Center, toured nationally, and performed at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in the United Kingdom. Her work in classic operetta brings together the vocal brilliance of opera and the wit, storytelling, and theatrical energy of Broadway. On the operatic stage, Amy Maude has performed with New York City Opera, Boston Lyric Opera–Opera New England, Dayton Opera, Opera Theater of Connecticut, and other companies.
