About this event
We'll start by grabbing a takeout lunch or snack in Brighton Beach, at NYC's biggest and most exotic "salad" bar (far more than salads), part of a Uzbeki/Russian mega-market. (Even if you bring your own lunch, exploring this store is an adventure.) After lunch on benches overlooking the ocean, we'll walk along the boardwalk, past Brighton and a rejuvenated Coney Island. Then we'll walk back along the shore, stop for a rest and optional swim, and view the sand sculptures, part of a big contest for amateurs and semi-professionals. (Last year's works look fantastic online!) Time permitting, we'll visit the Coney Island History Project and other neighborhood attractions in Coney and exotic Little Odessa (Brighton). Come and enjoy being on a distant planet, light years from the usual city existence. DISTANCE: About 4 miles. FINISH AT: Around 4 PM. But you can leave earlier, of course. TRANSPORTATION: Q train to "Brighton Beach." Please consult MTA planned service changes for Saturday changes on your subway lines.
